About Us
Based in Cleveland, Ohio,
CrookedRiverSports.com was launched in March, 2005 with the intention of becoming a destination for Cleveland
fans worldwide as a place to celebrate, or more likely, commiserate, the trials and tribulations of the teams representing
the most cursed sports city in America. After watching the sagas of guys like Michael Vick and Pacman Jones, as well as seeing
Roger Clemens argue over what may or may not have been injected into his left butt cheek by another grown man, we
soon realized that other cities and sports teams are worthy of ridicule too. In
January of 2008, the site was expanded to share the 'love' with sports fans across the country.
Why CrookedRiverSports.com?
Located in northeastern
Ohio, the Cuyahoga River flows both north
and south for approximately 100 miles, eventually making its way through Cleveland into the often cold waters of Lake Erie. With its distinctive U-shaped course and alternating
north/south direction, Native Americans nicknamed the Cuyahoga the ‘Crooked
River’, a name that has stuck for many years. The river helps drain an 813 square mile area spanning four Ohio
counties, and was briefly the western boundary of the United States
from 1795-1803. Despite being 100 miles in total length, its mouth is located
just 30 miles from its headwaters. Given that fact, we felt there wasn’t
a better moniker for a site about unintentional comedy in sports, than a river that literally ends up right where it started.
